Patan: Nepali Congress President and former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has stressed that awareness and responsible use of digital media are the foundation of Nepal’s digital future.
Inaugurating a program titled “Use, Impact and Impact of Digital Platforms” organized by the Nepali Congress Information, Communication and Publicity Department at the party’s central office in Sanepa, Deuba said positive use of digital media can significantly contribute to society and national development.
Digital Transformation in Daily Life
“Digital media has made services faster and more transparent. We can all contribute to personal, social, and national progress by using it positively,” Deuba stated. Highlighting the importance of technology, he noted that the current era is a digital era, where millions are connected daily through mobile phones, internet, computers, and social media.
Deuba emphasized the use of digital platforms in education, health, banking, aviation, agriculture, infrastructure, employment, and public service delivery. He added that technology-friendly schemes such as home internet access, mobile banking, online forms, digital health services, and online education are making life simpler and more inclusive.
Congress Commitment to Technology and Innovation
The former Prime Minister recalled that policies and regulations introduced during Congress-led governments expanded telecommunication services to remote settlements, ensuring access for all citizens. However, he acknowledged that much remains to be done in the technology sector.
Deuba reiterated that the Nepali Congress supports social transformation through innovation and technology, and advocates for technology-driven economic growth, good governance, and youth creativity. He called for a people-centered technology policy and collective efforts to build a technology-friendly, innovative, and prosperous digital Nepal.
Challenges and the Need for Safety Measures
While recognizing the positive aspects of digital platforms, Deuba cautioned about their negative impacts and urged the government and concerned bodies to ensure digital safety for citizens. He expressed confidence that such interactive programs will raise awareness and guide the formulation of effective technology policies.
Other Leaders Stress Digital Literacy
Joint General Secretary Mahalaxmi Upadhyay Dina emphasized the growing significance of digital media and the need to educate people about its responsible use, while Min Bahadur Bishwakarma, Head of the Central Information, Communication and Publicity Department, highlighted the strong influence of digital media and called for its effective use in party activities and positive communication.
